Gradualism, the slow evolutionary process by which natural selection brings about the arrival and development of life as we know it, has largely been abandoned today. The vestiges of Darwinism remain only in the most superficial literature designed for public consumption. In its place have come catastrophism, and punctuated equilibrium to explain the total lack of transitional forms and support uniformitarianism. An editorial in the current issue of Earth tells of gradualists beginning to admit to catastrophic impact by a meteor at the K/T boundary. Catastrophists argue that such an event wiped out the dinosaurs! We have ample evidence that dinosaurs existed. What was the vehicle that drove dinosaurs to extinction?
Job is an ancient gentile book, pre-dating Moses, that testifies of dinosaurs contemporaneous with man. The witness of the fossil record shows not just dinosaurs, but rhinoceroses and other mammals died off, as well. We have Bible revelation of God's judgment by the Flood. Many world cultures tell the story also. The Flood wiped out vast populations of living kinds. Great climatic change, quick freezing brought by hurricane winds, inundation and drowning, volcanism, and upheaval characterized the Biblical catastrophe. Massive deluvian mechanisms rapidly froze many animals, then buried them in tundra muck where they remained frozen to this day. There was also permanent climate change bringing seasons, first mentioned in Genesis 8:22.
Living conditions were greatly affected, longevity plummeted, and climate zones were established. The polar regions were changed from subtropical to severe arctic rapidly, permanently. Palm trees and frogs have been brought up with core samples from beneath the frozen scape of Alaska. It seems quite likely that although dinosaurs were on the ark, they simply could not survive the post deluvian climate changes. In Dinosaurs: Those Terrible Lizards Dr. Gish offers insight into what happened to dinosaurs.
In all the scientific analysis of the facts we cannot ignore that God means business. The awesome devastation of the flood judgment on the sin of man affects the whole creation. To not believe is to minimize sin. Rejecting the facts makes a believer not believable when he tries to confront the lost. The lost reject the facts because they want to shift blame from sin/personal responsibility to chance/victimization.
